Frequently Asked Questions - Osoyoos

Where are the Osoyoos classes taking place? The Osoyoos Royal Canadian Legion at 8310 78th Ave, Osoyoos. We will be upstairs.

Why only Wednesdays? This is a trial program, and we hope to in future bring a greater assortment of classes to your community.

What should my child wear to gymnastics? Do they need to bring anything? Any comfortable, well-fitting athletic wear of their choosing. Gymnastics suits, shorts, leggings, sweats, shirts of any kind, are all great choices. Jeans, dresses, and poorly fitting clothing are not. Jewelry must be removed (earring studs are ok), long hair tied back, no hats or accessories, and either bare feet or grippy socks. Please send a water bottle for your child, we do not have a water fountain.

What are your COVID protocols? We have limited our class size to 6-8 in all rec programs, with only 1 class running at a time. Participants will be sanitizing at arrival, between each circuit, and at departure. Equipment will have all touch points sanitized between classes. Coaches will strive to design all games, circuits, and drills to encourage distancing, and will be giving reminders as needed. All participants will have completed a COVID Agreement, confirming they have read our COVID protocols and agree to abide by it. Coaches will use a mask in times where distancing is difficult, such as while spotting. We will do our best to help all participants adhere to these protocols, but in working with children, reminders, visual aids, and all the best intentions in the world are not always going to be enough. Please let the office know ahead if you have concerns with the safety of your child in reference to COVID.

Does my child need to wear a mask? No. We would suggest the wearing of masks while participating in a class may be a safety hazard and a distraction. However, your child may choose to wear one if wanted.

Why do I need to pay the insurance and membership fee? All sports have a degree of danger involved, and gymnastics is certainly no different. In order to protect your family, as well as ourselves, participants are required to sign our waivers and have insurance coverage, which we provide to you for a cost. Our insurance is an annual fee, covering the period of September 1st to August 31. This means once you pay, at any point in the year, you are covered until August 31, and then you will be required to renew in order to resume activity past September. We also have a casual visitor member insurance. This product allows for participant coverage for those who do not plan to attend more than 5 times. The cost is $10, and this can be upgraded to an annual plan should you decide to attend more frequently.

What is your pay policy? We will do our best to be flexible in taking payment. For the 8 week session, we offer two equal payments. The first payment and insurance/ membership fee is due by November 17, 2020. You must have paid the first installment before your child can participate. You will receive an invoice by email shortly after signing up, please email the office to let us know your preference of payment. We can accept credit card or e-transfer to: info@flippengym.ca

What is your refund policy? By signing up for a class, you are committing to us to finish the entire session. We will allow for a three week trial period, where if your child is not enjoying gymnastics, we will release your commitment and you will only be responsible for paying the used classes and the $10 trial insurance fee. After your 3 week trial, refunds will not be issued except in cases of medical necessity (with doctors note or proof of injury) or moving ( 1 months notice). If you have attended 6 or more classes, there is no refund for the insurance portion of your paid fees. COVID Refund Policy: If the government were to shut down gym facilities due to COVID, any unused portion of paid fees would be refunded back or credited to the account, at the discretion of the customer.

I’m having a hard time affording sports for my kid(s), what are my options? In cases of financial duress, we do accept funding from providers such as KidSport and Jumpstart. Please contact the office if you require assistance in applying for funding. If you are planning to apply for funding from the beginning, please start your application process early to have enough time to receive funding before the start of your child’s session. We will do our best to work with you in your situation as we believe all kids should have access to sport, especially gymnastics!

Do you accept funding from Home Learning Providers? Yes we do! Please email the office to inform us of your intent. You will have received an invoice shortly after signing up, provide a copy to your home learning provider as soon as possible to apply for funding.

Do you offer any discounts? We are not offering discounts on our Osoyoos classes, due to the added cost to provide them in a mobile format.

Can I stay to watch my kid’s class? We will collaborate with the Osoyoos Royal Canadian Legion and email you the plan we come up with at a closer date.

How do we do Pick-Up & Drop-Off? We will collaborate with the Osoyoos Royal Canadian Legion and email you the plan we come up with at a closer date.

Do you have a discipline policy? We understand that all children are different, with their own strengths, weaknesses and attitudes, and we will do our best to be accommodating with each child’s needs. However, our gym does run on safety, respect and responsibility. Listening is expected at all times, and bullying will not be tolerated. Coaches will be actively encouraging a growth mindset; hard work, perseverance, personal responsibility, and reflection as examples. Reminders and warnings will be given as needed. In more serious cases, children may be asked to sit. If the issue is recurring, the coach, child, and parent shall have a meeting to discuss remedies which may include verbal or written apologies with action plan, code of conduct contracts, missed gym time, or a change in class. If all options have been exhausted with no change in result, expulsion from the session will become necessary. In this event, the participant will still be responsible for payment of the entire session, as well as the insurance fee. The participant will be welcomed back to try again at the start of the next session.

What if my kid is sick? Please do not bring your sick child to gymnastics. If your child has symptoms such as fever, chills, cough or worsening of chronic cough, shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell or taste, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, do not bring them to class. The BC CDC recommends COVID testing for anyone with these symptoms, or 2 or more of any cold, influenza, or COVID-like symptoms, even if they are mild. Remember that physical activity increases any symptoms your child might have, so what might not seem bad at home can easily become worse in class. If your child is struggling with an excessively runny nose, coloured discharge, difficulty breathing, inability to stop coughing, or complains of any symptoms from the current COVID list, you will be called to come pick up. Please use your best judgement in consideration of others.

What if the gym has to cancel one of my classes? If Flip’PEN has to cancel classes for any reason, we will remove that class from the next month’s fee, or refund it back to you. We will post a notice of the cancelled classes to facebook immediately, then email or call each affected family. We will do our best to give as much notice as possible, though please bear in mind any cancelled classes willl be due to an emergency and therefore may not have much room for notice.

Have we missed anything? If you have questions that you haven’t found an answer for here, please email info@flippengym.ca
